What’s New and Coming Soon in Sedna: Focusing On The Work Behind the Work

‍

Helping Shipping Teams Move Things Forward

Shipping moves quickly, and as we all know, the information behind it moves even faster.

A charterer needs a certificate set. An operator is trying to find the latest update on a vessel. A broker needs to understand where the market is moving. Someone needs to check the numbers before a fixture is agreed. Another person is picking up a voyage after someone else has gone home

The answer is usually already somewhere and it could be in a multitude of places including emails, attachments, vessel records, and conversations.

Finding and reconstructing the information is the work behind the work.

‍

This month, we've been making more of it easier. Across Sedna Email and Sedna Trade, the latest updates are designed to reduce the amount of searching, checking, and connecting so team members can spend more time moving the work forward.

‍

‍

Know the Vessel Is Ready Before Someone Asks

In shipping, certificate management doesn’t belong to just one person. For an operator or vessel manager, it's about knowing that the vessel's documentation is complete and up to date. For a chartering manager, it can mean getting the correct certificate pack to a counterparty quickly enough to keep a fixture moving. For a fleet manager or technical superintendent, it's about having visibility across multiple vessels and knowing where something is missing, expired, or coming up for renewal.

The problem is that the information is often scattered across emails and attachments.

A certificate arrives in an inbox. Another is buried in an old thread. A renewed document replaces an earlier version. Someone needs to check whether a certificate is still valid. Another person needs the full set for a counterparty. When something is missing, someone has to work out who to chase.

‍

What's new: Sedna Vessel Certificates Agent

The Vessel Certificate Agent brings that work together inside Sedna. As certificates arrive in Sedna Email, AI reads them and builds a live, per-vessel record showing what's valid, expired, or missing.

  • For chartering teams, that means being able to assemble and circulate the required certificate pack quickly, either individually or as a batch.
  • For vessel and fleet teams, it means seeing documentation gaps across the fleet and sending bulk requests for missing certificates, rather than chasing vessels one at a time.
  • For technical teams, it provides a clearer view of certificates arriving through everyday correspondence, including what needs attention and what has already been received.

The record is built from the documents already flowing through the inbox, so when a renewed certificate arrives, it becomes part of the vessel's record rather than creating another document to file, check and remember.

Less chasing. More confidence that when a vessel's certificates are needed, they're ready.

‍

Ask the Question. Get the Context and the Answer

Sometimes you remember that someone mentioned a vessel last week. You know the information is somewhere. You just can't remember exactly which email conversation, attachment, or record contains it. That used to mean searching, scrolling, opening threads, and checking attachments.

Now all you need to do is ask.‍

‍

What's new: AI Assist can search more of your Sedna data

Sedna AI Assist lets you ask questions in plain language and search your Sedna data for the answer.

It now searches email attachments and live vessel positions, as well as the information it could already access.

For teams using Sedna's Pre-Fixture tools, it can also pull up tonnage and cargo records.

‍

Ask AI Assist what you'd ask a colleague who has read every email:

  • Where is the vessel?
  • What's the status of this voyage?
  • Find the correspondence with this counterparty.
  • Catch me up on what I've missed.

‍

AI Assist also understands the shorthand people actually use in shipping, including terms such as Suezmax, ECSA, laycan, loadport, and disport, so you can ask questions the way you would naturally ask them at work.

When the conversation is useful, AI Assist automatically saves and names the chat, making it easy to come back to it later.

More of the information you need, without having to remember where it is.

Making the Work Easier

Shipping communication needs to be accurate, and it often needs to go out quickly. The details change, but the core message may be one your team has already written many times before. When the next communication needs to go out, someone still has to find the right email, copy it across, update the details, check the subject line and make sure the new message is ready to send.

It's a small task, but when you're working across multiple vessels, voyages and counterparties, those small tasks add up.

‍

What's new: Templates now save the subject line

Sedna Email Templates now save the subject line alongside the message and automatically fill it in when the template is used.

Templates can also be assigned across teams, so the people who need them can use the same approved message without having to recreate it.

Once a template is set up, it can be inserted with Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+T.

It's a small change, but it removes a little more repetition from the working day. The message is ready. The context still needs your judgement. The rebuilding doesn't.

‍

‍

Understand the Market

Finding a vessel is rarely just about finding a vessel.

When a cargo or opportunity lands, you're trying to work out what could actually fit. Where is the tonnage? What has the vessel been doing? Who owns it? Does the technical profile stack up? And how does it fit into the wider fleet?

That means pulling together information from different places, often while the market is moving and the opportunity in front of you won't wait.

‍

What's new: Vessel Directory is now available in Pre-Fixture

Vessel Directory brings trusted global fleet intelligence from Lloyd's List Intelligence directly into Sedna Pre-Fixture.

Teams can now search and filter vessels, review technical particulars, ownership and recent port calls, and explore the fleet on an AIS map, without moving between separate tools.

The result is a clearer picture of the vessels that could fit, in the same workflow where you're assessing the opportunity.

‍

Coming next: Saved market views

The next step is making it easier to share that picture.

Teams will be able to save focused views of vessels and cargoes and share them through Workspaces, so the desk can work from the same market view and the next person can pick up where others left off rather than starting the search again.

‍

‍

More Ways to Keep the Work Moving

The next updates continue the focus on making information available wherever the work happens:

‍

Coming Soon: Sedna mobile app with offline access

The Sedna mobile app will let teams read, filter, and draft emails even when there is no signal. Drafts will sync automatically when the connection comes back.

‍

Coming Soon: AI Assist on mobile

AI Assist will also be available on mobile, so teams can ask questions and find information from their phone just as they can on desktop.

‍

Coming Soon: Job Tags

Job Tags are being built directly into Sedna. IT admins will be able to create and manage tag templates themselves, making it easier to standardise how teams organise their work.

‍

‍

The Work Behind the Work

These recent updates are about reducing the amount of hours spent searching. The people who know the business best get to spend more of their time using that knowledge, rather than reconstructing it. That's the work behind the work.

This is where we are continuing to focus Sedna: connecting the information already flowing through shipping to the people and decisions that depend on it.

Less searching. Less recreating. More context. More action.
